The officer accompanying Colonel Yeager is Major Ralph N. Richardson, USAF, of the Aviation Physiology Laboratory.

That is my Grandpa, Lt Col Ralph Richardson. He helped develop the pressure suit during his service as a test pilot. Afterwards he consulted for David Clarke. He tested the Blackbirds Probably a A-12) and his first flight was 26, May 1966 and is listed as Staff. I have his flight jacket. Michelle Evans, who wrote “The x-15 Rocket Plane” said during a interview that the X-15 patch that is shown on Grandpa’s right shoulder is the only known X-15 patch left. We have a book on the X-15 that was signed by all the pilots and Neil Armstrong said “To Ralph, the man with the worst jokes in aviation history” giving their relationship and how many different things could go wrong during the flights, only jokes can calm a man down. Grandpa died in 2004? from complications of a stroke he had back in the mid 90’s.
