Excellent website !!! So numerous & beautiful pics !

I use to collect old vintage flightgear too…

For this specific picture, I think it’s a fake… The guy is wearing a P-3 helmet, not in use in 1947… Even the first standard helmet, the P-1 wasn’t officially adopted !

All the more, there’s 2 different types of light. Studio made… Evident !
    Congratulations.

    • Hi Cedric,
The photo is not a fake its may date to a little later than 1947 maybe up to 1950, as the back of the photo is stamped on the back “Base Photo Lab, Williams Field, Chandler, Ariz” Williams Field changed its name to Williams AFB around this time. Two sources of light just means that the photographer used two source of light not unusual, as I think this is a class photo and probably the photographer was shooting every pilot in the class the same way so he had a lighting set up. I own the original shot and it look completely legit to me.

      All the best
