  1. In 1953, under the guidance of Chuck Yeager, she became the first woman to break the sound barrier in a Canadian-built F-86 Sabre. During those flights, she also set a new world speed record of 652 miles per hour on a 100-kilometer course at Edwards Air Force Base.
