  1. Lt. Col. Eugene L. Surowiec adjusts oxygen connections just before takeoff on a 1,300-mile flight to Elmendorf Air Force Base, Alaska with nine other supersonic F-106 Interceptor aircraft. Colonel Surowiec will command this ten-aircraft detachment during it temporary assignment in Alaska.
