This photograph appears in the Lindell Eugene Hendrix Special Collection in the San Diego Air and Space Museum Archives. I don’t think that this is Lin Hendrix, though. I believe it is another Republic Aircraft Corporation test pilot, John M. (Johnny) Ard. The airplane is Republic F-84F-1-RE Thunderstreak serial number 51-1346 (fuselage “buzz number” FS-346), the first production F-84F fighter bomber.

. . . or a better match may be another Republic Aviation test pilot, Russell M. “Rusty” Roth. I am pretty certain that it is NOT Lin Hendrix, though. Hendrix had a distinctive hairline and a narrower face. (I’m sure I sound like a moron for posting a comment that says “This is A” and following with “No, this is B” and latere with “No, no, this isn’t A or B, it’s C, or maybe even D”.) But this piloyt is a pretty good match for the only other photo I have found of Rusty Roth.
