As a 2nd Lt Donald F. Chaplin was a member of 346th FG, 385th FS, he was shot down on 25th May 1944, at 10:30 near Evreux, while flying P-38J 42-68158, becoming a POW.
Later he was involved in a crash whilst flying F-94C in 1955.
